Filing Options That Are Not as Easy to See

Posted on 2/29/2020 by Lanier Valley Dentistry
Filing Options That Are Not as Easy to SeeFillings are a mainstay of dental practice. Most people with cavities opt for dental fillings which are great and serve their purpose. The most common question asked in our offices on dental fillings is whether or not they can be seen.

Seen in the sense that they stand out from the rest of the tooth in terms of color. This is largely driven by the fact that the filling option of choice for a long time was the silver colored filler which being silver would stand out from the rest of the tooth material. Over the years, however, filling substitutes have been made which blend in with the tooth color.

Composite Fillings

These are the most commonly used filings in dental offices all over the world. They are simple to use and do not require any drilling. Making them ideal for patients who are afraid of dental procedures. Composite fillings come in different shades which allows us to pick one that blends right in with the color of your teeth.

Glass Ionomers

These fillings are made from acrylic acids and fine glass powders. The great thing about them is that they can be painted to blend in with the color of the teeth. They are also made in a way that allows them to release small amounts of fluoride which serves to prevent tooth decay.

Ceramic

This is the most ideal filling because it looks and feels just like ordinary teeth. It is also very durable and does not break easily.

Porcelain

Porcelain crowns are good for veneers due to their ability to be easily formed into shells. They also closely match the teeth color. The only disadvantage of porcelain is that it requires numerous visits to our office before it is complete. All these are but a few of the filling options available for you in our offices. You can always call us if you have questions about fillings.
