What is

an Implant?

Implants are a unique structure often crafted from titanium or zirconia, two biocompatible materials. The implant functions as a replacement for a missing tooth and its root. Dr. Lentz surgically installs the implant screw into your jaw, and it fills in the vacant socket. An abutment (connecting piece) is also attached with surgery, and it holds a visible prosthetic in place. Dental crowns are one of the most common prosthetics supplied to patients.

With dutiful care, your implants can last nearly a lifetime. Get in touch with us if you’re interested in learning more about implants and if they’re right for your case.

Types of Implants Available
at Lanier Valley

At our local dental practice, we offer two forms of dental implants, each with various benefits. Upon evaluating your oral cavity, taking x-rays, and reviewing your dental and medical history, Dr. Lentz will make a personalized recommendation.

  1. Endosteal Implants
This is the most common type of dental implant in Dacula and can be given to patients who are missing one, two, or several teeth. Recipients must have a healthy jawbone to get this prosthetic since the screw is embedded into the bone.
  2. Subperiosteal Implants
This implant is provided to patients who need implants but have a jaw that is too damaged, narrow, or short for traditional endosteal implants. Two sessions are required to place these implants. During your first appointment, Dr. Lentz will open your gum tissue to access your jawbone and make a mold of it. The second appointment involves drilling the implant into the bone.

Who is a Candidate for
Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for individuals who have lost one or more teeth for various reasons. Candidates for dental implants typically include:

  • Missing teeth: Individuals with tooth loss can consider dental implants.
  • Good oral health: Candidates need healthy gums and significant bone density.
  • Overall health: Conditions like uncontrolled diabetes may impact success.
  • Age: Implants are suitable once jawbone growth is complete (late teens to early twenties).
  • Hygiene commitment: Candidates must maintain good oral hygiene for long-term success.
  • Non-smokers: Smoking can affect implant success; quitting may be advised.
  • Realistic expectations: Candidates should have realistic expectations about the procedure’s outcome.

It is essential to consult with a qualified dentist or oral surgeon to determine if you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. The dental professional will evaluate your oral health, medical history, and other factors to provide personalized advice and recommendations.
