Multiple Tooth Implants
Dacula, GA

There are over 40 million Americans who are completely edentulous. Out of all the tooth restoration options, dental implants remain the best as they offer the most natural-looking, feeling, and functional replacement teeth. A dental implant serves to replace the missing tooth root of the lost tooth and prevent resorption of the alveolar ridge that can result in reduced bone density in the jaw.

How Do Teeth Implants Work?

Teeth implants are titanium screw-like prosthetics that are designed to be inserted into the socket of the missing tooth. These implants offer support and stability to the dental crown that is placed upon them and strengthen the jaw in the process. The oral surgery required to insert the dental implant is minimally invasive and often requires the use of local anesthesia only. Once the surgical site is healed, the teeth implant is capped by a dental crown, which is made to resemble the visible part of your natural tooth. If you are missing only a single tooth, a single tooth implant surgery is performed to replace the missing tooth. This process has a very high success rate (up to 98 percent).

What is a Multiple Tooth Implant?

If you are missing multiple teeth or all your teeth, multiple tooth implants are a good treatment option for you. Although you can opt to add multiple tooth implants for every missing tooth, you also have the option of getting only a few implants that can support a dental bridge which holds a full set of prosthetic teeth.

All On 4 Treatment Concept

The All on 4 treatment concept is a type of implant-support bridge, which consists of four titanium implants, each on the upper and lower jaw, which support a full set of false teeth. At Lanier Valley Dentistry, Colin Lentz, DDS and Heather Ramsey, DDS will perform tooth extraction of any remaining unhealthy teeth before they perform the implant procedure. Two of the implants are positioned near where the canines used to be and the two are positioned in the back at either end. The back implants are longer and are tilted at a 30 to 45-degree angle to provide more stability to the tooth. Once the implants are installed and your mouth has healed, a bridge containing a full set of teeth is fixed to them.

Why is Bone Grafting Needed During an Implant Procedure?

Loss of teeth results in the re-absorption of the alveolar bone into the body. In the first year of tooth extraction, a person can lose as much as 50 percent of their bone volume. When the alveolar ridge that holds your teeth dissolves, your mouth will lose its shape and structure and will sag, making you look older than your age. Fortunately, at Lanier Valley Dentistry, we can use bone grafting material to augment your jawbone so that it is strong enough to hold a dental implant.

Bone grafting is a minimally-invasive procedure and can provide a lot of benefits to people who have low jawbone density. The bone grafting material can be taken from your own body, another donor, an animal source, or even made synthetically in the lab. The area receiving the bone graft is anesthetized and a small cut is made in the gum line to reveal the underlying bone. We will then pack the area with the bone graft material, which contains protein and collagen, and will accelerate bone development. The area is then sutured closed and the bone is allowed to grow for three to six months. Once your jawbone has been augmented, you can get the teeth implant surgery performed.

For people who have lost multiple teeth or all their teeth, dental implant surgeries is one of the very best options. If you feel you will benefit from the surgery, call us today at (678) 802-8654 and we will determine the health of your mouth and jaw and see whether you are a candidate for dental implants.
