Dental Bridges
Dacula, GA

Our team at Lanier Valley Dentistry will be glad to make the best of bridges for you. Bridges are used to close dental gaps caused as a result of missing teeth. It is advisable to bridge the gaps created by absent teeth because, if left open, neighboring teeth tend to naturally fall into the empty space resulting in unevenly spaced teeth. People with these tooth gaps are at risk of developing gum disease and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Bridges are made of different materials including alloys, gold, porcelain, or a combination of these. The choice of material to use for a bridge depends on cosmetic appearance and the position and function of the tooth. Porcelain and ceramic are most commonly used because they can easily match with the other teeth. Bridge placement is important because it not only restores your smile but also prevents your remaining teeth from drifting into the space. It also restores your speaking and chewing ability.

Bridge Placement Procedure

Getting a bridge involves two visits to our clinic. In your first visit, the teeth next to the gap [abutments] are prepared to support the dental crown. This involves removing a part of the tooth enamel. The bridge tooth attaches to a crown that will cover the abutment. After this, our dentist will make an impression of your teeth to make the bridge. A temporary bridge inserted on the prepared anchor tooth will hold till the permanent bridge tooth is completed. During your second visit, the bridge tooth gets completed. The temporary one will be removed, and the permanent one will be fixed in place, and then the crowns cemented to the anchor teeth.

Adapting to the Bridges

After getting a dental bridge, multiple medical appointments are required to enable our dentist to check your adaptation to it. Our dentist will look at the bite and the general fit of the metal framework. The new tooth might feel unnatural for a while, but getting used to it won’t take long. If you have any complaints or discomfort, return to our clinic for a proper checkup. Regular brushing of your teeth is necessary. You should take extra care of your teeth and make sure you do not put them to unnecessary hard use to ensure the bridge tooth remains in good condition.

Bridges are very handy for solving tooth gap related issues like missing tooth or very wide gap tooth. The placement procedure is relatively easy and stress-free, although it involves two visits to our clinic. With bridges, your other teeth are sure to remain in their right positions and get supported for chewing. Bridges also improve your speech as unnecessary tooth gaps can impair speech to an extent. Bridges done by our professionals ensure a hassle-free procedure.
