Before & After

All Ceramic Crowns:

broken down right maxillary crown
Pre-operative: a badly broken down right-maxillary crown with root canal access. Prepared for full coverage all ceramic crown. Tooth required post core build up.

Intra-operative: this shot is before post space is made and build up complete. The orange dot in the middle of the tooth is a fuji glass ionomer that is used by my endodontist to seal the canal and decrease contamination during removal of temp materials.

Post-operative: minimal intraoperative tissue trauma and very close shade match. Side (or buccal) shot has a great shade match and occlusion. Patient was very pleased with the result. She has wide smile that included the 1st molars in the aesthetic zone so it was very important that we get her the best aesthetics possible.

Posterior Composites:

broken down right maxillary crown
Pre-operative: this is tooth #14. It has an amalgam (or silver) filling that has fractured over time (arrow). We need to replace these fractured restorations because they get bacteria under them and start to decay the tooth.

Intra-operative: once the amalgam is removed you can see the decay that is present (the dark staining that is soft to the touch). In this tooth, there is also a crack that was noted. Sometimes it is recommended that we go ahead and crown a tooth that has a crack in it, cracks have a tendency to continue down into the root of the tooth and ultimately fracture the tooth into two pieces. However, in this case, we were able to remove the extent of this fracture and place the filling.

Post-operative: our final restoration has a white (composite resin) filling that resembles the original tooth structure. Patient was thrilled with the results and the tooth felt great!
